@Willy Ames I wonder how this works when, for example, a minor is arrested for a horrible crime and being Tried AS AN ADULT? Does that mean the parents are financially off the hook to support their minor child, since the government has declared them to be an "adult"?

@Willy Ames in the US, when a child turns 18, or turns 18 AND graduates high school, the parents no longer Must support them financially or with medical coverage. So if a foster child turns 18 it's common for the foster parents to kick that kid out in the street (because they are no longer getting paid to raise them). A pretty heartless thing to do. But I believe if your kid is going to school to learn a trade or get a degree, you can continue to claim them as a dependent on your tax return AND keep them covered on your medical plan until they're in their 20's (24, 26? not sure). Or if the child can be claimed as a dependent because they can't support themselves like they have a condition, such as downs syndrome, and are unable to ever live alone. So, it seems to basically be about taxes. However, a child, if they contribute more than 50% of a parents support, can claim the parent as a dependent EVEN if they don't live together. So the fact that they are parent and child related to each other does not end at any age. Look at Brittney Spears case, she had restraints on her well after being 18, including not being allowed to get pregnant. I haven't looked at the tax laws lately so I'm not sure if this is still the case

On a serious note, not everyone wants to make friends with strangers. I imagine most people would find this bench irritating at best, with the worst case scenario being that one or both people sitting on the bench have an anxiety attack. Like, seriously, who likes to be pressured to do anything?

@Pug Mommy Interacting with people takes social energy, and I'd rather conserve social energy for people whom I know that I like or for situations where it's necessary.
